Medical Malpractice (Brain damage, wrongful death)
VERDICT $1,384,685 (total value) - $800,000 (present value) $750,000 (net after MICRA reduction)

Decedent was a 39 year old woman who entered defendant hospital with new-onset seizures. She was unable to give history that she was pregnant, but she had elevated blood pressure and protein in her urine, indicating eclampsia. She developed pulmonary edema, and during intubation attempt suffered cardiopulmonary arrest. Although resuscitated, she suffered brain death and died one week later. A Riverside jury returned a verdict in favor of the plaintiffs and against the hospital and emergency room doctors.
