Plaintiff had right shoulder pain and arm weakness due to arthritis in the neck ("cervical spondylosis"). He went to defendant neurosurgeon for anterior discectomy and fusion. Two hours post-operatively, was noted to have weakness in upper arm, with inability to lift it over his head. The paralysis, with residual pain, was permanent.
