Products liability/Medical Malpractice (Brain damage)
Settlement: $400,000
Products Plaintiff was a 62 year old nurse who had a brain tumor ("meningioma"). She went to the operating room for surgery. During surgery, she was supposed to be hyperventilated by the anesthesiologist, in order to decrease CO2 levels and decrease brain swelling. During the procedure, the anesthesia machine monitoring CO2 (End-tidal CO2 monitor) did not function properly. The patient was not adequately hyperventilated, and her brain swelled during surgery. Trauma occurred to the brain, leading to brain damage.
