Medical Malpractice
Verdict: $1,689,153

Plaintiff was a 60 year old bookkeeper who underwent surgery for a herniated disc in her neck (C-2/C-3). An anterior discectomy with C-3 corpectomy was performed, with placement of a bone graft between C-2 and C-4. During surgery, the bone graft was placed too far posteriorly, entering the spinal canal and impinging on the spinal cord. The spinal cord suffered traumatic injury, with the patient initially quadriplegic with loss of bowel and bladder control. She made a partial recovery and was left with Brown-Sequard Syndrome (incomplete spinal cord injury).
