Brain Damage in Young Woman after minor Surgery

This case involved a 21 year old college student who went into a free standing out-patient surgi-center for minor surgery under "conscious sedation." Shortly after the procedure, due to excessive doses of medication she suffered a respiratory arrest, followed by cardiac arrest. She was resuscitated, but the efforts were initially inadequate and ineffective. Although she survived, she was left with permanent and serious brain damage.
